Sara Nelson, MA
Principal and Co-Owner
Sara formally started Soda Creek Consulting in 2008. She has worked in different capacities of health communication and community engagement for close to 20 years. This has given her experience in and a well-rounded perspective of everything involved in developing, implementing, and sustaining different types of health, social service, technology, and community-based projects and programs. Her seemingly distinct set of skills in communication/advertising and community outreach/education has always turned out to be complementary in her professional work. For example, clients often hire Sara because she has “walked the talk” – she’s done direct service and advocacy work with vulnerable populations (immigrant, at-risk children, low-income families, victims of violence, homeless, etc.) – AND she knows how to effectively reach and engage them through her user-friendly educational tools and interactive facilitation techniques.
Sara counts herself fortunate to help clients on a wide variety of projects that benefit different communities. She is firmly committed to making health and behavior change information accessible to the masses.
Albuquerque, New Mexico is Sara’s home base. She’s originally from Colorado where, as a kid, she’d spend many a summer day hiking and exploring Soda Creek (it’s real!) with her Golden Labrador.
Cheryl Christopherson, BS, BSN, RN, PCCN
Principal and Co-Owner
Cheryl brings a valued healthcare perspective to the firm. She is a dynamic facilitator and motivational public speaker. Clients have raved about her ability to engage hearts and minds in lively participatory training formats.
She has expertise working with culturally diverse populations providing ambulatory/in-patient nursing (NM Veterans Healthcare System), progressive care nursing (University of New Mexico Hospital) and correctional/emergency medical services (Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center/Presbyterian Health Services). Her nursing interactions require critical thinking, collaboration, patient education, and motivational interviewing techniques.
Cheryl graduated with honors from both the nursing and exercise science baccalaureate programs at the University of New Mexico. She also holds an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate and Electronics Technology certificate from Central NM Community College. During her previous career in computer information technology, she was sought after for her project management and team building skills.
Growing up in many different communities — from big city Los Angeles to rural Indian reservations to the Dutch West Indies — has framed who Cheryl is today. She credits this with her ability to bridge differences and build open communication.
Her personal philosophy: “Whatever my hand finds to do, do it with all my might!”
