Our Role

Develop tools to help employees at the New Mexico Department of Health understand, consider, and apply the social determinants of health in their work. This framework helps employees to then develop programs, policies, and communication that work for the communities they serve. Our tools will be used with executive leaders, at employee orientation training, and at follow-on trainings.

Our Role

Cultural competency review Project ECHO provides telehealth medical education and health workforce capacity and offers knowledge-sharing networks in order to reduce health disparities. We reviewed their interdisciplinary opioid addiction treatment teleECHO clinic lectures to ensure they were culturally competent. As part of the review, we developed a cultural competency checklist in order to consistently assess items like bias, access, assumptions, cultural strengths, communication, behavior, assessment and treatment, customs, and more.

Rate Review and Mental Health Parity

Our Role

Training development for train the trainer, messaging, training  – Create user-friendly trainings for consumers and small business to learn about and participate in New Mexico’s rate review process as well as to be informed regarding primary care benefits and the mental health parity. Research rate review and how it is communicated in other states and campaigns. Develop messages that appeal to consumers and small businesses in order to increase their involvement in controlling health insurance rates. Assist in training outreach workers from Health Action New Mexico to “get out the word” about this engagement.

Project coordination  – Assist in coordinating project and partner efforts to increase awareness of the Office of Superintendent of Insurance and its consumer resources.
