Our Role

Cultural competency review Project ECHO provides telehealth medical education and health workforce capacity and offers knowledge-sharing networks in order to reduce health disparities. We reviewed their interdisciplinary opioid addiction treatment teleECHO clinic lectures to ensure they were culturally competent. As part of the review, we developed a cultural competency checklist in order to consistently assess items like bias, access, assumptions, cultural strengths, communication, behavior, assessment and treatment, customs, and more.

June 2017 – Cultural Competency Review for Opioid Abuse Prevention Lectures

Cultural Competency Review of Opioid Abuse Prevention Lectures

We’re working on a project called Expanding Treatment for Substance Use Disorders Through the ECHO Model for the University of New Mexico’s Project ECHO. This is a Health Resources and Services Administration funded project. For it we’re reviewing opioid abuse prevention lectures for cultural competency. We’re ensuring that lectures, given virtually to medical providers, nurses, community health workers, etc., consider different cultures, communication styles, literacy levels, and more.

This is for Change Matrix’s client, National Council for Behavioral Health.

March 2017 – Creating User-Friendly Content

Develop User-Friendly Cultural Competency Guide

Change Matrix contacted us to ask if we could help them adapt their Mental Health First Aid cultural competency guide to be more user-friendly in terms of literacy level and organization of content. Answer: Absolutely! We love this kind of work. We changed most of the content from a college literacy level to an 8th to 10th grade level. We also split up content by chunking, color, bullets, and use of graphics. We also did the layout and design for the guide. Very happy to partner with this great organization!
